2021 marked the kickoff of an exciting new initiative by Melbourne Innovation Centre in partnership with Melbourne Polytechnic and the Melbourne’s North Food Group: a kitchen and food incubator for startups looking at realising their dreams of joining Melbourne’s thriving food scene.

FoodINC is a launching pad that offers its users and participants:

  • Premium, exclusive highest food-safety grade commercial kitchen space at the Melbourne Polytechnic’s (MP) Preston hospitality centre with further dedicated spaces at MP’s Epping campus being scoped with support from the City of Whittlesea

  • Access to the monthly calendar of small business training and professional development that the Melbourne Innovation Centre hosts both digitally and face-to-face

  • Access to the expertise and training support that Melbourne Polytechnic skilled educators and trainers have across compliance, food safety through a host of specialist short courses and vocational learning opportunities.

  • Engagement and connection with the 400+ business partners of the Melbourne’s North Food Group with advocacy, trade, and supply chain excellence. To view more on the food group click here

  • Dedicated advocacy and guidance by the MIC Incubator leaders and mentors across legal, export and trade, food safety, sales and marketing and government engagement

  • Networking, meet the buyer and meet the expert events hosted my MIC or its partners from across Melbourne’s North and beyond

  • Access to group buying savings on ingredients and services through Melbourne’s North Food Group

  • Opportunities for larger businesses or not-for profit enterprises to explore accessing commercial kitchen spaces, connecting with startups and expanding corporate social responsibility and/or social enterprise initiatives.

The establishment of FoodINC has been generously seed funded by the Brunswick Business Incubator (MEDCL). Melbourne Innovation Centre acknowledges the significant contribution Brunswick Business Incubator made within the Moreland region and Melbourne’s north, and is pleased that the legacy will be continued through the food and kitchen incubator program in supporting and nurturing new businesses in the region.
